"Dr Irons?"

The intern's voice broke through Silvia's daydream and brought her back to reality. He'd called the name a few times already, a youthful boy holding out a thick stack of charts and paperwork to the doctor. The pair stood to the side in a long stretching hallway of the emergency ward. This was Capitol Hospital, the best medical facility on Osiris, and Dr Iron's night was just getting started.

"These are the run downs from the last hour - two more from that shootout down on Bexley passed away. Too much shrapnel. The rest are going into surgery." He started piling the charts and stacks of paper onto the doctors arms, regardless of whether she wanted them or not.

"Sandra said you were also covering beds 7-14 over in East Ward - something about you owing her." He stacked another half dozen charts onto the growing pile. "And, finally, there was some guy asking for you down at reception. I think a cop, not sure - maybe to do with that shootout?" The question wasn't really a question and the intern wasn't really looking for a response. As soon as the papers had been offloaded, he was on his merry, leaving Silvia at the start of the ngiht shift and at least one coffee behind schedule.

The young doctor sighed deeply as she took on the stack of charts from the intern, That's quite fine, I'm sure we can get this all sorted out Jim. She started to flip through the assortment of charts, Walk with me, we'll have to get some of the nurses to check in and doing drug administration as required, like this one, broken arm and nausea, ask Debby if she can get Rob to help her set it and give him fifty milligrams of Sodium Bicarbonate, then schedule a follow up with the patient and he can be discharged... She continued to go over the charts, dictating orders to the intern while walking down the crowded hallway towards the reception area to meet with the officer, looking at the intern, Did you get all of that Jim? Now make sure that those lower priority cases are dealt with by the nurses and I'll have to prep for a couple of the surgeries once I'm done here. Can I help you officer? she casually asks the cop that's here to question her while still flipping through some of the charts, not even looking up to confirm the man's credentials.

Jim, barely breaking to get a word in, sped away from the doc with a harrowing nod, hoping to avoid getting any more work. Here he was thinking he was offloading to her, and it turned out to be the other way around. Silvia had a reputation of doing just that.

"Er, yes. Ms.. I mean, Doctor, Irons?" The man was tall, well built, not the usual police officer sort, but definitely wearing the uniform. The dull blue and grey of the local PD was ever present, a shiny badge hanging around his neck - a detective? surely that would have caught her attention.

"Detective Simmons, ma'am, Capitol City PD... do you have a few moments for a quick word?" He flashed the badge, along with his ID, the Irons caught a quick glimpse of the chunky handgun hanging just below his jackets hem. Now that's not police issue, is it?

Silvia looked over at Jim, Send bed 10 home, tell Mrs Malhoney that she's wasting her time and ours. She yells at the intern before he can run off too quickly.

Looking at her, now smaller, stack of papers Silvia nods to the officer that she only half glances at, Uh huh, what can I do for you? She begins to break up the charts into separate stacks while listening to the officer, casually handing off a chart to a nurse that walks past with an instruction based on the patient in question. The doctor looks at the officer, You do realize we're a hospital and we're gorram busy right now. Noticing the non-issue gun on him she thinks a moment and then looks at the nurses behind reception, I need to speak with Detective Simmons here, make sure that this stack is looked after first, this one is low priority, and these ones need to be sent upstairs to the operating room and I should be up to deal with them in the stacked order once I'm done here. Silvia starts towards an office, If you'd be so kind as to follow me, Detective?

Lupin walked down the spotless halls of the central hospital keeping an eye out for anyone he can recognize and for any potential targets who he could sell a bridge to in possibly a literal sense. The recent events made the pickings slim, specially with some of the local authorities keeping an eye out. That didn't stop him, instead Lupin continued to poke around intentionally overhearing conversations and even starting up conversations with strangers in hopes of getting a nibble. Best he was able to do was get a couple grand from a well off gentleman who was so set to sue the hospital over the wait that he was happy to place a retainer with Michael Goldstein and Associates.

With extra funds the day was looking good but he still needed to line up a big score or possibly consider doing the long con again for a better return of investment. But that needed time money and a crew the last of which he was seriously lacking and with no connections here it'd be hard to assemble one for weeks. So it was off to the restroom, to fix his tie and comb his hair before trying to find another mark.

"Of course." Detective Simmons nodded with an empathetic smile towards the busy schedule Irons held, and politely let her lead the way to a nearby empty office room. As they were wondering down the hall, the man made his move, voice remaining calm and casual.

"I'm here, actually, looking into the disappearance of a young man by the name of Edward Volos. Was a patient here just before he went off the radar." There was silence between the two for a moment, Silvia remembering Volos quite clearly - he was the last person to die at her hand, and not by accident.

"I wasn't quite sure if you would have been so eager to proceed, Ms Irons..." They arrived at the door of an empty office room, neither noticing Mr Lupin walking by, "... especially without a lawyer." The young conman's ears pricked up at the word an he stopped, for a few milliseconds too long, beside the talking pair.

Silvia listened to the detective's reasoning for wanting to speak to her and took a few moments to think, Well, we do get quite a few patients coming through those doors, I'd have to look through my files to see if Mr Volos was one of mine. She sat down at the chair behind the desk and pulled out an apple, her PDA and then a scalpel which she used to slice chunks of the apple off for herself. She flick through pages of records, Might I ask why you're coming to me specifically? Or are you sure he was one of my patients? She glanced at her PDA noticing the name, lifting her PDA to show it to Detective Simmons, Is this Mr Volos? Patient of Dr. Sandra Woo? Deceased on the operating table after his appendix ruptured while Dr. Woo was attempting to remove it, caused a severe toxic reaction within his body. the doctor casually told the detective.

As Silvia spoke, Simmons slowly and carefully nudged the door closed, then stood on the opposite side of the desk to where the Doctor sat. When she'd finished her speech, the Detective reached forward towards the PDA, taking a closer look at the face on the screen.

"May I?" He quickly snatched up the PDA from her hands, smiling and staring down at the screen for a few moments, before promptly hurling the tiny computer at the door. It smashed through the small window in the door frame and flew into the hall beyond. Lupin, the innocent bystander, was hit by the PDA and showered in glass. A few others in the hall screamed, some running away, though most peered curiously at the office door.

"Yes. Yes. I think that was Volos." The Detective reached under his jacket for his handgun, producing the weapon and taking a step back from the desk - his employer had warned about keeping his distance from this particular Doctor. "But I think that after-death write up is incomplete." His finger curled around onto the trigger, the gun raising high, pointed to the Doctors face. A long silencer issued from the end of the piece - definitely not police hardware.

From beyond the door, Lupin could see the scene unfold as he recoiled from the glass shower.

When Lupin had originally overheard about the need fer a lawyer he was almost starting to droll with anticipation, that was until he realized the risk was too much and it was most likely a police matter. So calling the day a bust he decided it was now probibly for the best to start heading home. At least that was the idea until a phone and some shards of glass decided to disagree.

Leaning foward in an effort of shaking off any remaing glass, Lupin spotted the pda responsible for the inconvince. He picked up the device and was ready to have a few choice words with the arrogant prick who figured chucking it out a window would be a great idea. He looked up only to see a man with a gun held up at a doctor. Knowing darn well that this scene didn't look right and he had to do something and quick. Looking at the PDA he had in hand he went with the first & coincidentally most immature idea he had and with all his might threw it at the man's head with no real idea what he was doing.

Relax, I'm not the doctor that was over seeing his treatment... She remained calm, He wasn't your family, was he? Who was he that someone sent a hired gun to kill the wrong doctor? She smirked right when the PDA came flying back through the hole in the window and smacking the 'detective' in the back of the head, just enough of a distraction for her that she threw the scalpel that she was using to cut her apple at the gun wielding man's neck, trying to miss the artery but at least take the offender down.

The man, 'Detective' simmons, reeled forward slightly and reached up to his head with his spare hand, the PDA slamming right in the back of his head before falling to the floor, dead. The man swung around, hopelessly trying to hold the gun on the Doctor as he scanned for his assailant. Seeing through the glass window in the door, the man cursed Lupin.

"Son of a... what the hell do you-" The sentence ended with a scream of pain as the scalpel flew straight by the mans face - a little higher than Silvia had expected, but still causing the man some grief. Sliding across the side of his face, the sharp blade left a long gash from the side of lips back to his ear, blood quickly flooding down the side of his neck.

The man stumbled back from the desk a few paces, trying desperately to stop the bleeding with one hand and steady his gun with the other.

The doctor quickly grabbed another scalpel from her desk as she hops over it to get behind the man, holding the blade to the lower spine of her attacker before pressing in while kicking him in the back of the knee, Release the gun and you might survive this. she whispers while trying to force him to the ground.

The man let out a pained shout, instinctively firing a single shot off with a silence 'splat' as the bullet hit the wall behind Silvia's desk. With the Doctor behind him, the scalpel digging in, Simmons dropped to one knee and flung himself to the side, pushing the Doctor off him momentarily as both of them ended as a heap on the floor. The gun went skidding across the room.

From outside, Lupin watched the incident unfold as someone nearby, further down the hall, jumped on the phone to the local security team. Alexander watched the Doctor leap forward and unarm the gunman as if combat was second nature to her.

Silvia not realizing that the man was dropping to the side, held a firm grip on the scalpel in her hand causing it to drag under his flesh and between vertebrae as she got knocked back against the wall with a grunt. She looked at the gun across the floor and just remained still, breathing heavily and dropping the scalpel she was holding, Whoops... is all she could mutter.

Lupin watched stunned as the events unfolded right before his eyes, to him it wasn't so much He fact that there was a dead person lying there on the floor, but rather the fact that the doctor was the one responsible. The concern was she had dispatched him with such ease in a fashion he had only seen in the movies. He didn't have much time to think about what had happened, instead he had to react since time was now running out and fast.

Not knowing or caring about if the doctor already knew if he was there Lupin entered the room. He slowly walked in closing the door quietly as possible behind him and even took the extra precaution to close the blinds and lock the door. Leaning up against his door he cleared his throat to get the woman's attention, all the while he kept his hands in sight to avoid any accidents.

"Now what is a beautiful looking doctor like yourself doing cutting up a guy out here for? Was the OR booked up?" He gave a reassuring smile as he looked around the room. While he wasn't a cleaner he wasn't new to trying to avoid leaving evidence around. "Let me be brief then," he found what he was looking for by picking up the busted pda, "You and your... pal here didn't go unnoticed." He used a rag in his pocket to clean off the phone of any of his own prints before putting it back down. "I suspect someone has already called the police. And honestly I'd prefer to avoid em."

The doctor looked up to see the young man that was hit by the PDA, cracking her neck a bit and pointing at the gun that he pulled on her, He pulled a gun on me, I was defending myself. she looked at the slight bump on Lupin's head, Trouble with the law, huh? Don't worry, I won't turn you in... If you need an escape, I'll give you one. I owe you for distracting him. Reaching into her medical kit she pulls out several lengths of bandages, I wrap your head and face, then put you on a gurney, wheel you out the back, and you'll be free to go. She walks towards him holding only the bandages in her hands and waiting for his response to her offer.

On the floor, the man grunted and spasmed for a few seconds, then went still. The Doctor could tell that he wasn't dead yet, but his spine had taken enough damage to likely paralyzed his entire body. His still eyes just stared up, straight at Lupin, as his body lay in an odd fashion on the floor, blood slowly seeping out.

Lupěn looked at the dying man and quickly turned away soon as soon as he saw those accusing eyes staring back at him. Lupin's eyes wondered the room for a moment before returning back to the doctor who was still waiting for a response. "Sounds like a half decent plan, but what about you? Surely, someone besides me had to see you walk in here." He then paused for a moment holding up his index finger gesture. "Even if this was self defense I'd prefer to know your name."

She just smiled at Lupin before quickly shutting the dying man's eyes with her fingers. Silvia nodded, I'll give you my card, you can call me if you ever need some medical advice. The doctor quickly wrapping Lupin's face with long bandages, even covering his hair, I can handle myself, I'll tell anyone who asks the truth, he came here upset about a deceased patient and wanted to kill the over seeing doctor, which he thought was me. She's quick with the bandages, If anyone asks, you had a cooking accident and have second and third degree burns... Is your name Rodrigeuz? I need to get you a chart in case anyone tries to question you.

Lupin sat still as the doctor began to wrap him up as if he was one of those mummies one could read about in the books about Earth-that-was. All he could do was to think to himself how stupid he was and wonder why the hell hasn't he already ran off on his own or even try his odds with the police. Regardless, it was too late now & the best thing he could do was to play along and maybe even see if it could pay off some other way.

"Rodrigeuz", he replied back almost asking rather then answering. "Yeah that's me", he followed up with a grin that couldn't be seen under the bandages. It was amusing to him the name she came up with and made him wonder if he actually looked tanned enough or not. "So on the gurney then out the back huh?" Nodding his head in confidence in being able to play off such a thing he declared, "ready when you are."
